Quester Terms of Service
Effective date: October 4, 2026 Last updated: October 25, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Alta Via Labs, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company, 2810 N Church St STE 88497, Wilmington, DE 19802, USA ("Quester", "we", "us"). They cover the Quester: City Travel Guide app for iPhone and Android and the services behind it ("Quester").
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal data. It is part of these terms. If you don't agree to these terms, please don't use Quester.
If you live in the EU, the UK or anywhere else whose consumer laws give you rights that a contract cannot take away, nothing in these terms reduces those rights.
1. What Quester is
Quester helps you:
- plan a trip, with a day-by-day plan you can edit;
- save places from links and screenshots you share into a collection;
- discover places and stories around you while you travel;
- ask a trip assistant for help.
Quester is an information and planning tool. We don't sell or book travel, rooms or any venue's services. We aren't affiliated with the places we show, or with Instagram, TikTok or any other platform, unless we clearly say so.
We keep improving Quester, so features may change, be added or be removed.
2. Who can use Quester
- You must be at least 18 years old. Quester isn't meant for anyone younger, and we will close an account if we learn its owner is under 18.
- You must be allowed to use Quester under the laws that apply to you, including sanctions and export laws.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account, so keep the Apple or Google account, or the email address and password, you sign in with secure. If you think someone else has used your account, tell us at support@getquester.com.
3. Your account
Signing in. You sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and password (for accounts we set up, such as store-review logins). New accounts are created with Apple or Google. We never see your password: Apple and Google keep theirs, and for email sign-in Firebase Authentication holds only a hash of it.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account at any time in the app.
- Deletion happens right away and cannot be undone. Your account and data are deleted as described in the Privacy Policy (Section 10).
- Deleting your account doesn't refund purchases. Refunds are handled by the app stores (see §6).
Trips with a purchase. A trip that holds a purchase can't be deleted on its own. If the store refunds the purchase, the trip can be deleted like any other. Deleting your account removes it either way, unless other travellers are still on it (see §7.4).
4. AI-generated content — please read
A lot of what you see in Quester is written by AI models. This includes trip plans, place descriptions, "why this place matters" stories and trip assistant replies. We currently use Google Gemini and OpenAI models. Generated text is labelled as written by your AI guide.
AI can be wrong. It can invent details, mix up two places, rely on out-of-date information, or miss that a place has closed, moved or changed. We work to reduce errors, but we can't promise that anything generated is accurate or complete.
Treat it as inspiration, not fact. Before you rely on anything that matters, check it with the venue or an official source. That includes whether a place is open, prices, access, entry rules, safety and local laws. Opening hours, where shown, come from Google Maps and can be out of date.
It isn't professional advice. Nothing in Quester is legal, medical, safety, immigration or financial advice.
Tell us about mistakes. If something looks wrong, press and hold the assistant's reply and choose Report, tap Report under a story, use Report a problem in the app, or email support@getquester.com. We correct or remove content that is wrong.
The assistant remembers. The trip assistant saves your chats and short notes about things you tell it, so it doesn't have to ask twice. You can see and delete these in "What Quester remembers". The Privacy Policy explains how long we keep them.
5. Travelling safely
- Your safety is your responsibility. Use your own judgement, pay attention to your surroundings and follow local laws.
- Don't use Quester while you drive.
- Listing isn't endorsement. We don't inspect the places we show. Showing a place doesn't mean it is safe, legal, accessible, open or any good.
- Directions come from your maps app. Tapping the directions button hands off to Apple Maps or Google Maps. That app plans the route under its own terms. We don't provide navigation.
- Location. With your permission, some features use your location. On iPhone and Android you can also allow optional background location during an active trip. We store only a coarse area, never your exact position (see the Privacy Policy). Location readings can be inaccurate.
6. Free features, trip unlocks and payments
6.1 Free. You can create trips, get and edit the generated plan, and invite fellow travellers to plan with you at no charge.
6.2 Trip unlock. These features need the trip to be unlocked:
- discovery around you;
- the trip assistant;
- the collection (saving places from links and screenshots).
The app shows what an unlock includes, and its price, before you pay.
6.3 What you buy. An unlock is a one-time purchase for one trip.
- It is not a subscription. Nothing renews and you are never charged automatically. The only other payment for a trip is the one in §6.5, and you are asked first.
- The price depends on the number of trip days and the number of travellers (1, 2, or 3–5), up to a set maximum per trip.
- Prices are shown by the App Store or Google Play in your currency, including any taxes the store applies.
6.4 How long it lasts. The unlock runs from the purchase until the end of the trip's last day, by the destination's local date.
- From the next day, the paid features close for that trip. Your trip, plan and saved places stay readable.
- The trip's dates lock when you buy. If you want different dates, start a new trip.
- A trip can be at most 14 days long.
6.5 Shared trips.
- Only the trip's organizer can buy the unlock. That is the traveller who created the trip, or whoever took it over (see §7.4).
- One unlock covers everyone on the trip, up to 5 travellers.
- Before the trip starts, if adding a traveller moves the trip into a higher price band, the organizer is asked to pay the difference before the invite goes out. Once the trip has started, you can only add travellers within the band already paid for.
6.6 Paying. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google under their own terms. We never see your card details.
6.7 Refunds.
- Ask Apple or Google for a refund under their policies. We can't issue refunds through Apple's App Store ourselves (Apple handles those), and on Google Play refunds go through our Play Console.
- If a purchase is refunded, the unlock is removed from the whole trip, for every member, including any extra payment for added travellers. The trip stays readable and can then be deleted.
- Your legal rights aren't affected, including any right to cancel that the law or the store's terms give you.
6.8 Your unlock follows your trip, not your phone. Sign in with the same account on another device and the unlocked trip is there. There is nothing separate to restore.
6.9 An unlock has no cash value. It can't be moved to another trip or resold.
7. Your content
7.1 You keep ownership. "Your content" means:
- trip names, dates and notes;
- places you save;
- links and screenshots you import;
- messages you send to the assistant.
It stays yours.
7.2 What you let us do with it. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process and display your content. This licence covers only what is needed to run Quester for you and the people you share a trip with. That includes sending your content to the service providers listed in the Privacy Policy, such as our AI and hosting providers.
- The licence ends when your content is deleted, apart from the backup periods in the Privacy Policy.
- We don't sell your content or publish it.
- We don't show anyone outside your trips your notes, your imports or your chats.
7.3 Facts belong to no one. The fact that a real place exists at an address isn't anyone's property. We may use place facts, such as a place's name and location, to keep our place catalogue accurate. We never use your notes, your identity or a creator's post to do this.
7.4 Shared trips. Everything on a shared trip can be seen and edited by the trip's other members, so invite people you trust. If the organizer deletes their account, the trip stays for everyone else on it. The member who has been on the trip the longest becomes the new organizer. The plan, places and notes stay with the trip, including what the old organizer added. If no one else is on the trip, it is deleted with the account.
7.5 Feedback. If you send us ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
8. Importing from social media and other websites
8.1 What happens when you share a link or screenshot.
- Our service providers fetch the public content behind the link.
- AI reads the caption, text, audio or on-screen text to find the places mentioned, and those places are added to your collection.
- We keep the place facts, not a copy of the post.
- The raw caption or transcript and the creator's handle are deleted on the schedule in the Privacy Policy.
- We may keep one preview picture from the post. It is shown next to the places it produced, to you and your trip members. It is deleted 30 days after the link was last imported.
- Screenshots you upload are deleted as soon as we have read them. A copy left behind by an error is deleted within 1 day.
8.2 Your promises. When you import something, you promise that:
- you are allowed to see it and share it with Quester (for example, it is a public post, or it is your own);
- you won't import anything to infringe someone's rights or to harass anyone;
- you won't import private messages, or posts from private accounts that aren't yours.
You are responsible for what you choose to import.
8.3 No affiliation. Quester isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Instagram, TikTok, Meta, ByteDance or any creator. Creators own their posts.
8.4 Creators. If a Quester user imported your post, you can ask us to remove any remaining reference to it:
- email privacy@getquester.com (see Privacy Policy §8);
- or, for a copyright claim, email copyright@getquester.com (see §11).
8.5 Imports aren't perfect. Extraction is done by AI and can miss places or add wrong ones.
9. Our content, other people's content, and open licences
9.1 Quester's content. The app, its software, design and brand (including our parrot), and our original text belong to us or our licensors, to the extent any rights exist in them.
- You may use Quester and its content for your own non-commercial trip planning. That includes taking screenshots to share with friends.
- Don't copy Quester's content at scale, scrape it, or republish it commercially.
9.2 Openly licensed material — this section overrides §9.1 and §10.
- Some stories are adapted from Wikipedia. They are labelled "Adapted from Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0".
- Many photos come from Wikimedia Commons under Creative Commons licences, or are in the public domain. Each Creative Commons photo is credited on screen or one tap away.
- Some photos are used under the Unsplash License or the Pexels License, which don't require a credit.
- Photos on place cards are illustrative. We choose them by the type of place, and they don't show that place. They come from the Unsplash License or are our own or used with permission, so no credit is shown.
- Each of these items is available to you under its own licence, as shown in its credit. Nothing in these terms limits the rights that licence gives you. Where these terms and the licence disagree, the licence wins for that item.
- Our adaptations of CC BY-SA text are themselves offered under CC BY-SA 4.0.
9.3 Google Maps. The in-app map and some place details come from Google Maps Platform and are shown with Google attribution. By using these features you also agree to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service. Google's handling of data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. Don't copy, scrape or extract Google content from Quester.
9.4 Other third-party content.
- Short quotations from publications are credited, linked, and belong to their publishers.
- Pictures from a venue's own website belong to that venue.
- We aren't responsible for third-party websites we link to.
10. Acceptable use
Don't use Quester to:
- break the law or infringe anyone's rights, including copyright and privacy;
- stalk, harass or track a person without their consent, or plan harm to anyone;
- upload or import illegal content, content that sexually exploits anyone, threats of violence, hate content or malware;
- scrape, crawl or bulk-download Quester, use bots to access it, or build a competing dataset from it (subject to §9.2);
- reverse-engineer or decompile the app, except where the law allows;
- get around payments, unlock checks, rate limits or security, or share one account to avoid paying;
- try to make the assistant produce harmful content, or reveal its instructions or other people's data;
- send spam through invite links;
- pretend to be someone else, or claim to be connected with Quester when you aren't.
If you break these rules, we may remove content or limit or suspend your account. We will tell you what we did and why, and how to object, unless the law or someone's safety prevents it. You can reply to support@getquester.com, and a person will review your objection.
10.1 Reporting illegal content
Anyone can tell us about content in Quester that they believe is illegal, including people who don't use Quester. Email support@getquester.com (for copyright, use §11) with:
- why you believe the content is illegal;
- where it is (the trip, place or screen, with a screenshot or link);
- your name and email address (not needed if you are reporting child sexual abuse material);
- a statement that you believe in good faith that your report is accurate and complete.
We will confirm we received your report and decide on it carefully and without undue delay. A person makes every decision; we don't use automated tools to decide on reports. We will tell you what we decided and how you can challenge it. If we remove or restrict your content, we'll tell you why, as described in §10.
10.2 Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Objectionable content is anything hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, violent or threatening, and any other content §10 forbids. Copyright complaints follow §11. That covers what you write, what you import and what you ask the assistant to produce. Abuse includes harassing, threatening or bullying anyone, on a shared trip or anywhere else in Quester.
How to report.
- A story: tap Report under it.
- An assistant reply: press and hold it and choose Report.
- Anything else, including another traveller: Profile › Report a problem, or email support@getquester.com. Tell us the trip and the person.
What we do. We review reports and act on them within 24 hours. If content breaks these rules, we remove it, and we may suspend or close the account behind it. Serious or repeated abuse means the account is closed. We tell you what we did as described in §10.
On a shared trip. The organizer can remove anyone from the trip in the trip's settings (Remove from trip), and anyone can leave a trip at any time (Leave trip).
11. Copyright complaints and takedowns
Where to write. Email copyright@getquester.com. For photos, tell us what is wrong: a missing or incorrect credit is usually fixed quickly.
What to include:
- your name and contact details;
- the work you own;
- the item in Quester, with a screenshot, the place name or a link;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised;
- a statement that your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or are authorised to act for the owner;
- your signature (a typed name is fine).
What we do. We acknowledge notices within 3 days. Where a claim is valid, we fix the credit or remove the item within 10 days.
If your content was removed. If we remove content you added and you believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same address. We follow the process in the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Repeat infringers. We close the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe.
Our designated agent. Nadav Gelbard, Copyright Agent, Alta Via Labs, LLC, 2810 N Church St STE 88497, Wilmington, DE 19802, USA. Phone: +1 332-231-9922. Email: copyright@getquester.com. US Copyright Office DMCA designated-agent registration: DMCA-1081228 (listed under Quester, Quester App, Quester: City Travel Guide and getquester.com).
12. Availability and changes to Quester
- Quester is provided as available. It may sometimes be interrupted or slow.
- If we decide to shut Quester down, we will give at least 30 days' notice in the app, and we will stop selling unlocks when we do. If an unlock is still running on the day Quester closes, we will refund the unused part to the person who paid for it. The unused part is the share of the unlock's window (see §6.4) still left on that day.
13. Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows:
- Quester is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. That includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.
- We don't guarantee that information about places, prices, access or safety is correct, or that the app is free of errors.
This doesn't affect any legal right you have to digital content that works as described. In the EU, for example, that right comes from the Digital Content Directive; in the UK, from the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
14. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows:
- we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, lost profits, lost data, or missed plans or bookings;
- our total liability to you is limited to the greater of (a) what you paid for Quester in the 12 months before the claim, and (b) US$50.
What we don't limit. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for anything else the law doesn't allow to be limited.
If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, the paragraph above about indirect damages and the cap doesn't apply to you. Instead, we are responsible for loss you suffer that was foreseeable and was caused by our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We aren't responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for business losses.
15. Your responsibility for claims
If you break these terms or the law, and someone brings a claim against us because of it, you will cover our reasonable costs of that claim. This section doesn't apply where consumer law forbids it.
16. Ending these terms
If you leave. You can stop using Quester and delete your account at any time (see §3).
If we suspend or close your account. We may do this if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect other people. Where reasonable, we will give you notice and our reasons first.
If we close your account for another reason. We may also close your account even if you haven't broken these terms. If we do, we will give you at least 30 days' notice in the app or by email. We will also refund the unused part of any unlock you paid for that is still running, as described in §12.
What continues after the end. Sections 4, 5, 9 and 13–18 still apply after these terms end.
17. Changes to these terms
- We may update these terms. For important changes, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before they take effect, unless a change is needed sooner for legal or safety reasons.
- If you keep using Quester after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms. If you don't agree, stop using Quester and delete your account.
- A change never reduces what an unlock you already bought includes.
18. Governing law and disputes
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, not counting its conflict-of-laws rules.
- Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Delaware.
- If you are a consumer in the EU, the UK or another place with mandatory consumer protections, you keep those protections, and you may bring a claim in the courts where you live.
- Please contact us first. We will try to resolve any problem informally within 30 days.
19. Apple App Store (iPhone users)
If you downloaded Quester from Apple's App Store:
- Who the agreement is with. These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Quester and its content.
- Your licence. We give you a non-transferable licence to use Quester on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as allowed by the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions. Other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing or volume purchasing may also use it.
- Support. We are solely responsible for maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to provide any.
- Warranty. If Quester fails to conform to any warranty that applies, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app (if any). To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation, and any other claims, losses or costs from a failure to conform are our responsibility, not Apple's.
- Claims about the app. We, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims by you or a third party relating to Quester or your use of it. That includes product-liability claims, claims that Quester fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer-protection, privacy or similar laws.
- Intellectual property. If a third party claims that Quester or your use of it infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
- Legal status. You confirm that you aren't located in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated by the US government as "terrorist supporting", and that you aren't on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Our details. Our name, address and contact details are in §22.
- Other terms. You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use Quester, such as your mobile data provider's terms.
- Apple can enforce these terms. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
20. Google Play (Android users)
If you downloaded Quester from Google Play, the download and any purchases are also subject to Google Play's terms. Google isn't a party to these terms.
21. General
- These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Quester.
- If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce a term straight away, we haven't given up the right to enforce it.
- We may transfer these terms as part of a merger or a sale of our business. We will tell you if that happens. You may not transfer your rights under these terms.
- The English version of these terms is the one that applies.
